Logo with Green Glass Border

Here is the Business Visuals logo. I originally created it in black & white. I then put this photo of a piece of glass on a second layer behind the logo. Then I deleted the white rounded border from the first layer. This gave me the turquoise border.  I bought the glass from a guy sitting under a tree on the side of the road in Arkansas.

Business Visuals Designs the City of Memphis Budget Cover FY 2011

Business Visuals recently designed the cover of the 2011 City of Memphis Budget.

The cover includes images of Stax Museum, the FedEx Institute of Technology, an aerial view of downtown, Beale St.,  the Tom Lee Memorial, and University Place.

All of these photos were shot by Business Visuals.
The cover also includes Mayor Wharton's slogan "One Memphis."
Looks like a fun town!

Nikon D90, Metz 45CL4 Problem & Solution

NIKON D90, METZ 45CL4: PROBLEM
I recently switched from a Nikon D200 to a Nikon D90 to get the larger image size and larger viewing screen.  The D90 is great, and costs less than the D300 (successor to the D200).

When I attached my Metz 45CL4 to the D90 (using the SCA 3045 cord and the SCA 3402 dedicated TTL module) it would not work.  Actually, it would work for about 10 seconds and then not fire. So, I had to turn off my D90 and turn it back on again every time I wanted to take a shot.

HERE'S THE SOLUTION:
The problem turned out to be that my SCA 3402 dedicated TTL module (labeled M7) worked with the D200, but did not work with the D90.  You have to buy the new one, labeled M8, to use the Metz with the D90.

I hope I have saved you some frustration.  This was a challenging experience but an easy fix: all I had to do was buy my way out of it.

The photography business never fails to be interesting. We will take you along on some of our adventures. My name is Pat Ryan and I have been doing commercial photography in Memphis for decades.

Here is an aerial view of Humphreys Blvd. and Walnut Grove in Memphis. Baptist Hospital is visible at the center and Christian Brothers High School is at the top right.

When you open the window of the Cessna to shoot on a winter day, your hands freeze instantly from the propeller wash. That is why you have to have the camera tethered to your belt. In future blogs, I will tell of the extremes of the photo business.
